The Ordinary - Squalane Cleanser | Beauty and Skincare Network
Squalane is a type of chemical called a ‘lipid’, which is similar in structure to fats and doesn’t dissolve readily in water. It is a product that humans produce naturally as part of our sebum, the ‘oil’ that protects our skin. Squalane was mostly sourced from shark livers. Now, products like The Ordinary Squalane Cleanser are made from sustainably sourced squalane from olive oil.
The primary benefit of squalane is its moisturizing properties for smooth and soft skin. It’s also thought to be useful in the treatment of fine lines, skin firmness and elasticity. Being an oil, skincare products with squalane in it will also dissolve makeup and other skin impurities, without striping the skin.

This is a great product, at a great price. Most oil or balm cleansers are either cheap and bad or good and overpriced. This is cheap but really good, like better than some of the most popular ones. This leaves no residue. I tried this and it is as effective for double cleansing routine, in removing all make up, including waterproof mascara - just needs a bit gentle insistence. Deeply cleansing clogged pores as well. But it’s nice and oily, removing all traces of makeup effortlessly. You’ll love how it doesn’t strip the skin, it really is silky and gentle, and my face feels soft and luminous afterwards. Leaving a moisturized and hydrated feel afterwards which is amazing. Summer soft skin during the winter. It doesn’t sting in the eyes.
It is also effective for combination skin, some hormonal acne, some whiteheads/blackheads and of course, why not, PIE and PIH. All of these issues except dehydration are being managed quite well actually. The non-comedogenic formula is suitable for all skin types except for severely dry skin I must say.
One of my only negative concerns has to be that I think 50ml won't last me more than a month and that's just revolting. It would really be nice for this product to be more compact. Like maybe change the consistency to something heavier, not so lightweight, that I wouldn't need so much product to use.
Can be used day and night. A gentle yet effective all-time favourite cleanser, this is a product to try. Such great value for money, you can't beat The Ordinary!
